Anita McSwain
Camp
May 16, 1952 – May 9, 2026
Anita Diana McSwain Camp, age 73, of Cherryville, passed away peacefully at Wendover Hospice on Saturday, May 9, 2026. Born in Lincolnton, North Carolina, on May 16, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Efford "T.E." McSwain and Margaret Ann Clark McSwain Hager.
Anita was a dedicated and hardworking professional, spending her career as a service manager for Bell South and later AT&T. Outside of work, she knew how to appreciate the simple, beautiful things in life. She had a wonderful green thumb and found great peace in keeping a vibrant flower garden and tending to her plants. Her house at the beach was her sanctuary - a place where she loved to retreat, relax, and make memories.
Above all else, Anita’s greatest joy was her family, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Much like her late husband, she possessed a deeply giving heart. She believed in the importance of community, routinely donating to local charities and quietly helping people whenever she could.
She is survived by her children, Chad Camp, Stacie Camp Bennett (Scott), and Cassie Camp McCrimmon; her brothers, Tony McSwain (Debra) and Dwayne McSwain (Monica); and her cousin, Teresa Wilcox (Dennis). She was the proud grandmother of Thomas Camp, Lydia Bennett, Gracie Truesdell, Cole McCrimmon, and Liam McCrimmon.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Phillip Evins Camp, and her parents.
A graveside service to celebrate Anita’s life will be held on Tuesday 5/12 at 2:00 at Mary’s Grove Community Church Cemetery, located at 1223 Mary’s Grove Church Rd, Kings Mountain, NC 28086.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Anita’s spirit of generosity by paying it forward - help a neighbor in need or contribute to a local charity like the Knights of Pythias Lodge 263 at 125 Fish Camp Rd., Cherryville, NC.
