Betty Ramsey Cloninger

July 17, 1929 — March 6, 2025

Betty Marie Ramsey Cloninger, age 95, of Cherryville, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Peak Resource of Cherryville. She was born July 17, 1929, in Gaston County to the late Kelly Jacob Ramsey and Hallie Smith Ramsey Dellinger.

Betty was a graduate of Tryon High School class of 1947. She was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Betty retired from Hewlett Mfg. Company of Cherryville. She was only retired for six months and went to work for Keystone Powdered Metal Company, retiring at the age of 85. She met her husband Grady at Sims Legion Park and enjoyed going to baseball games to watch grandchildren and great children play. Betty loved sports and was a NASCAR (the late Dale Earnhardt) and Dale Jr. fan. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and was an avid North Carolina Tar Heels fan. She was also an excellent cook, but later in life she enjoyed her daily trips to Bojangles. She was affectionately known as “The General” and “Maw Maw Betty.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Leon Cloninger; brother, David Kelly Ramsey, son-in-law, Bill Sherrill; nieces, Ginger Ramsey, Jane Ramsey; nephew, Ronnie Ramsey; and her pets, Angel (Blue Heeler), and Snow (stray cat).

Survivors include her daughters, Carol C. Sain, and Penny C. Sherrill; grandsons, Kelly Homesley and wife Trudie, Philip Sain and wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Dayne Homesley, Allie Kay Homesley, Brylee Sain, and Noah Sain; niece, Linda Lovelace; nephews, Kelly Ramsey, Roger Ramsey, and Bruce Ramsey.

Her family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the Sanctuary of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Cemetery with Minister Brad Alexander officiating.
