Cynthia Poe

It is with great sadness but also expectant joy in the Lord’s promise of eternal life that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife and loving mother, Cynthia Annette Poe. Though taken from us much too soon, she lived a full life for her Lord Jesus Christ. From an early age, Cynthia’s passion was to be a pastor’s wife and to see children come to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. And as a pastor’s wife for 29 years, a children’s ministry leader and Sunday School teacher, and as a teacher at Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy, she worked tirelessly, giving selflessly and sacrificially, to educate, love, and care for children of all ages. Even despite her battle with dementia, her ongoing dedication was evidenced in that, in the final weeks leading up to her passing, she continued to do whatever she could to help with the Children’s Ministry at First Wesleyan. Her dedication to the Lord and to her calling has made a great impact on many people of all ages, and her absence from both her family and her church will be impossible to fill. Though we will miss her more than words can say, we know we will see her again, and we look forward to that day!

Cynthia is lovingly survived by her husband of 32 years, Rev. Mark Poe; her children, Andrew and Matthew; father, Melvin Barr; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Rebecca Poe; brother, Christopher Barr; sister, Tammy Kralovic (Andy); brother-in-law, Darrell Poe (Marianne); and nieces and nephews, Sophia, Jackson, Preston Barr, Andrea Kralovic, and Abbey Poe.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian Barr; and sister, Cheryl Barr.

A Celebration of Cynthia’s life and homegoing will be held on Wednesday, August 19th, with the receiving of friends at 11:00 am and the service starting at 1:00 pm at First Wesleyan Church, Cherryville with Rev. Mark Poe and Rev. Chris Wilson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Wesleyan Church and VIA Health Partners – Cleveland County. Both groups have been extremely compassionate and supportive in helping care for Cynthia and allowing her final days to be a time of peace, comfort, and dignity.

A special thank you to Madison and Lauren from VIA! And we cannot even begin to list all the people at First Wesleyan who have helped and served us during this difficult time. You have stepped up and shown us all what a true church is! Cynthia loved all of you and counted it a privilege to serve you and your families for the last 25 years.
