Helen Christine Homesley Lamoureux, age 92, of Cherryville, passed away March 5, 2026, peacefully at her home. She was born on September 27, 1933, in Gaston County, the third of ten children, born to Commodore Broughton and Ruth Lineberger Homesley.
Following graduation from Tryon High School in 1951, and not yet 18 years old, she moved to Washington, DC in search of work, having followed her older sister, Marie, who had moved there the previous year. Helen enjoyed a long career as a federal civilian servant, retiring in 1989 after more than 35 years. Upon retirement, she relocated to her hometown of Cherryville. It is here where she developed a passion for doll making and china painting; hobbies that spanned nearly 4 decades and showcased her immense talent. Her dolls were dressed in clothes she made with great detail, talent, and pride, and throughout the years she won many ribbons for her excellence. Her extraordinary painting skills were highlighted in the many portraits she painted as well as florals which became a staple of her art. Having become the best student of her dear friend, Joyce, and at her urging, Helen became an instructor at Cleveland Community College, teaching doll making for many years.
In addition to making dolls and painting, Helen enjoyed decorating, shopping, gardening, sewing, and travelling, and was especially overjoyed in recent years to become a great-grandmother. Helen enjoyed a large circle of friends cultivated through teaching doll making and volunteering at First Baptist Church of Cherryville. In her later years she volunteered at the church garden which she thoroughly enjoyed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leo “Gerry” Lamoureux; her adopted daughter, Jennifer Lamoureux Campbell; and her siblings, Lewis Homesley, Marie O’Donnell, Jimmy Homesley, Shirley Wright, and Barbara “Bobby” Homesley.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Barbara Langdon; her stepdaughter, Maureen Nevarez; grandchildren, Jillian, Nickolas, and Michaela England, Michael Paul Lamoureux, Riley Nevarez, and Emma, and Dallin Campbell; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, and Ethan England Butt; sister, JoAnn (Ernie); brothers, Sonny, Steve (Cindy), and Larry (Vickie); and numerous other close friends and church family.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, March 13, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Cherryville, with Pastor Tom Kinman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM, prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, where Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gerry.
