Jimmy Fred Lay, age 86, of Dallas, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1939, in Gaston County, to the late Odessa Paysour Scott, grandson of the late Audie and Katie, “Mom and Dad” Paysour. Jimmy was a retired long line truck driver with Carolina and ABF. “Corn Picker,” as he was referred to on the CB radio, loved his days of truck driving. He also enjoyed going to the beach, farming, and his tractors. Jimmy was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was known for his love of candy, especially a Snickers Bar. He and his wife, Aquilla were Charter Members of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He had a great love for the Lord and cherished his family greatly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Aquilla Goins Lay; son, Jimmy Wayne Lay and wife, Andrea; daughter, Cindy Ford and husband, Rusty; and grandchildren, Chase Lay, Jordan Lay, and Zoey Lay.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Parker officiating and music rendered by Amber Robertson. The family will greet friends immediately following the service in the cemetery.
