Margaret Newton Beam

Margaret Newton Beam, age 98, of Cherryville, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Peak Resources. She was born February 2, 1927, in Gaston County to the late Ben Dixon and Mamie Moss Newton. In 1947, Margaret started Newton Music. She worked for MGM of Charlotte, Kenneth B. Beam Insurance, and Cherry Motors. Mrs. Beam eventually went to work for the school system as Secretary until her retirement. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher where she taught the “Young Married Class” for nearly 20 years. She and her husband, Bob also served faithfully in preparing the communion services for many years. Margaret enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family who she loved beyond measure.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee “Bob” Beam; son-in-law, Stowe Sellers; and siblings, Bennett Newton, Imogene Newton Beam, and Betty Jane Newton Bame.

Survivors include her son, Dermont Beam and wife, Gayle Moss Beam; daughter, Lu Ann Sellers; grandchildren, Todd B. Beam (Heather), Daren M. Beam (Kristin), Jason D. Beam (Leanna), Lutricia F. Bennett (Kevin), Ryan M. Freeman (Jessica), and D.B. Freeman (Jessica); great grandchildren, Erin, William, Nicholas, Joseph, Samantha, and Daniel Beam, Elizabeth and Audrey Bennett, Ava, Dylan, Bryan, and Emma Freeman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Rev. David Bame and Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 PM prior to the service at the church.
