Maria Cordell Butler

Maria Cordell Butler, age 61, of Cherryville, passed away Friday, April 3, 2026, at Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospital. Maria was born July 23, 1964, in Guilford County, to the late Larry Eugene Cordell and Reba Ann Henderson Cordell.

Maria was a tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt for many years and liked crunching numbers. She was a lover of science fiction, especially Star Wars. Maria enjoyed crocheting and I Love Lucy. She was extremely knowledgeable and had an answer to everything. Maria was always neat and tidy and took pride in having a clean home. She was someone you could count on for anything, at any time. Maria loved her family and always tried to maintain good relationships with everyone.

In addition to her father, Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall “Gene” Butler.

In addition to her mother, Reba Cordell, survivors include her children, Jessica Dawn Wiley (Bobby Joe), Laura Moreno (Jonathan), and Jay Daniel Butler; brother, Brion Cordell (Misty); granddaughter, Alisia “Peanut” Amber Gold; and best friend, Leslie Ledford.
