Obituary

Mark Robert Gault, 69, of Gastonia, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 11, 2026 at Atrium Health Kings Mountain. He was born in Gastonia in 1957 to the late Robert and Blenda Huneycutt Gault, and graduated from Ashbrook High School in 1975. He joined the United States Army in 1978, where he served honorably for 4 years. His lengthy career in the trades included positions at Public Service Propane, Hagan Kennington Oil Company, TR Lawing Realty, UNC Charlotte, and Amerigas Heritage Propane. He enjoyed spending time with his family and at the casino, where he could be found playing his favorite game, 88 Fortunes. He was quick to share a joke and a laugh with his grandchildren and could be counted on to be the first one to fall asleep on the couch at any family gathering. He would regularly call his kids to tell them to go outside and look at the moon, and they will miss those phone calls and reminders to look up and marvel at the sky dearly. He loved hunting for cinnamon Mentos for his youngest daughter Chloe, talking shop with his son Samuel, chatting with his oldest daughter/de facto personal secretary Caitlin, and finding fun toys for his grandchildren to spend his safety points on.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Buck” Gault & Blenda Huneycutt Gault. He leaves behind his three children, Caitlin Gault Jowers (Michael), Samuel Robert Gault, and Chloe Gault Wright (Wesley), their mother Bonnie Tadlock Johns (Jimi), and three grandchildren who loved their “Grandpa Mark” dearly (Ansley, Norah, and Roger). He is also survived by his sisters Amy Propst (Greg), Flora Towery (Joe), and Cathy Gault (Anthony).

A Time of Remembrance will be held Friday, September 18 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home, followed by Military Honors.
