Marveta Blanton McGinnis, 87, of 802 Washburn Street, Cherryville, NC died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at her residence. She was born in Shelby, NC on May 19, 1927 to the late Marvin Sr. and Elizabeth Moss Blanton. Mrs. McGinnis retired from Carolina Freight after thirty-four years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cherryville where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, MYF leader, choir member, circle leader and Sunday School Class President.

She is survived by her daughter, Paula McLane (William) of Maui, Hawaii; son, Steven McGinnis (Gregory McKnight) of Winston-Salem, NC and Ft. Lauderdale, FL; granddaughters, Sarah McLane Bryan (Timothy) of Maui, Hawaii and Mallory McLane (Samuel Ortiz) of Los Angeles, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Paul Hubert McGinnis; siblings and spouses, Frank and Bleaka B. Kerr, Harvey and Aileen Blanton, William and Winnie B. Harris, Marvin, Jr. and Evelyn Blanton, Jody and Edith Carter, William and Irene Blanton, Dwight and Clara B. Rollins, and Carl, Margaret and Imogene Blanton.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 19th, 2015 with Rev. Rick Fite, Rev. Leonard Bumgardner, and Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall immediately after the service. At other times, the family will be at 802 Washburn St. Burial will be private.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church at 601 N. Pink St., Cherryville, NC 28021 or to the Blanton Scholarship Fund at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, 1420 S. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28152.
