Mary Lou “Mutt” Heavner Wacaster, age 92, of Baxter Road, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at Carolina Care and Rehabilitation. She was born May 2, 1934, in Gaston County to the late Charles Clyde and Hester Brown Heavner.

Mary Lou was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on the bereavement committee, preparing meals. She also helped to make and deliver meals to shut-ins. Mutt also enjoyed volunteering at Wendover Hospice House.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lee Gene “Cub” Wacaster; infant son, Gerry Gene Wacaster; brother, Ralph Heaver; and sister, Reba Haynes.

Survivors include her son, Rick Lee Wacaster; granddaughters, Geena Wacaster Zimmerman (Mark), and Kayla Wacaster Henson (Matt); great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Caleb Zimmerman, and Asher and Kendall Henson; brothers, Bill Heavner and Eddie Heavner (Susan); and sister, Polly Houser.

Mary Lou’s family will receive friends from 10:00 to 10:45 AM, on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home. 

Funeral Services will be held at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Friday with Rev. Wayne Key and Rev. Jerry Lail officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
