Norma Jean Brittain Smith

Norma Jean Brittain Smith, age 80, of Cherryville, passed away April 23, 2026, at Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation. She was born April 9, 1946, in Cleveland County, to the late Willard Reese and Millie Velleree Brittain.

Norma Jean constantly put others before herself and always found the good in everyone she met. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and drawing. Norma Jean will be remembered for her strong faith.

In addition to her parents, Norma Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Marvin Smith; sons, Marty Smith, and Namon Smith; sisters, Brenda Turner, Betty Hamrick, and Mary Kaylor; and an infant brother.

Survivors include her sister, Nathalee Kaylor (Roger); grandson, Hilan Smith; nieces and nephews, Roger Reinhardt (Sherry), Loretta Bauer, Angie Martin (Kenneth), Mark Kaylor (Nicole), Sally Branch, Joey Hamrick, Jamie Hamrick (Robin), Josh Kaylor, and Mallory Upton; many special friends including, Joyce York, Joyce Jenkins, and Faye Poovy; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
