Ronald G. Abernathy

Ronald G. Abernathy, age 73, of Cherryville, passed away May 18, 2025, at Autumn Care of Marion. Ron was born February 2, 1952, in Lincoln County, to the late James Allen and Lillian Francis Abernathy Goode.

Ron was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He was also an over the road truck driver for many years. Ron enjoyed racing, working on racecars, and wrestling. He was an avid NASCAR fan and gear head.

In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his siblings, Jerry Goode, Michael Goode, Jamie Goode, and Lisa Moody.

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Diana Black Abernathy; son, Tony Shull (Wendy); daughter, Kelly Abernathy; brother-in-law, Bob Moody; sister, Barbara Brackett; grandchildren, Tony Shull (Maney), Taylor Shull Ross (Malik), Andrew Shull, Nicholas Abernathy (Sunflower), Elondre Freeland (Rachel) and Kayden Freeland; 8 great grandchildren; and special friend, Ellis Worcester.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM Friday, May 23, 2025, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 6:15 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
