Roy Brooks

Roy Eugene "Gene" Brooks, age 71, of W. Church St. died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Hospice of Wendover. He was born on February 11, 1942 in Gaston County, a son of the late Nelson and Essie Jarrell Brooks. Gene was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was retired from Dixie Industrial and IDG.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Dellinger; and brothers, Robert Boyd Brooks and wife, Catherine, and Billy Grant Brooks.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Papot Brooks; daughter, Lauri Hastings (Doug) of Cherryville; grandson, Dylan Hastings; brothers, Alfred Brooks (Betty) of Cherryville and Nicky Joe Brooks (Billie Mae) of Homestead, FL; brother-in-law, E.W. Dellinger of Cherryville; sister-in-law Claudine Brooks of Cherryville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 3:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. Eric Childers officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 2:30 at the Carpenter's Funeral Home prior to the service.
