Ruth Black Anthony, age 98, of Cherryville passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Carolina Care Health & Rehabilitation. She was born May 16, 1919 in Gaston County to the late Ben and Jane Whitworth Black. Mrs. Anthony graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne and was in elementary education for over 42 years. She was a member of NCAE and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She had a love for animals, especially her cats.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Anthony; brother, Ira Black; and sisters, Elsie B. Deaton, Vera B. Hoyle, and VonEva B. Allran.

Survivors include her step daughter, Francine Costner and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Michael and Richard and his wife, Betsy; great-grandchildren, Ivey and Grant; nephew, Randy Allran and wife, Martha; niece, Barbara A. Herman; great niece, Katherine A. Gray; sister-in-law Ruth Anthony; and special friends, Pam Anthony and Jill Puett.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 at 12:00 PM at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Ben Kifer officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Family Section of Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 until 11:45 AM in the Parlor of the church.
