Shirley Woody

Shirley Wilson Stacy Woody, age 68 of Cherryville passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Meadowwood Nursing Center. She was born on September 9, 1947 in Gaston County. She was a lifelong Christian who was faithful in her service to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Shirley was a retired school teacher in Gaston County. She had a great love for children and education. After retiring from teaching, Shirley volunteered at the Food Bank in Gastonia, B.R.E.A.D., Inc. She had a passion for flowers and photography. Shirley was a very loving and dedicated mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Velma Watts Pope; biological father, Ira "Bill" Wilson; step-mother, Irene Wilson; first husband, Mack Stacy; and sister, Susan McFarland.

Survivors include her son, Shawn Stacy and wife, Teri of Gastonia; granddaughter, Hannah Stacy; father, David Pope of Cherryville; sisters, Dianne Curry of FL, and Annette Hayward and Carole Windh of WA; estranged husband, Richard Woody; and step daughters, Donna Huss, Jane Kimbro and Patricia Robbins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral & Cremation Services with Rev. Leonard Bumgardner officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:30 to 2:45 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
