Paul Steven “Perk” Perkins, age 73, of Cherryville, passed away Monday, May 18, 2026, at The Greens at Lincolnton. Perk was born on June 4, 1952, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Clarence Ernest and Mattie Rose Lybrand Perkins.
Perk was the former owner of Perk’s Pizza in Cherryville and a former prison guard with the N.C. Department of Corrections. He was a music lover; he played guitar and sang at local nursing homes and played a few times with Earl Scruggs and Darin Aldridge. Perk loved to help and cook for people, and his children were the apple of his eye.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Darrell Perkins, Kathy Perkins Spidel, and Kim Perkins Lail.
Survivors include his children, Michelle Perkins Mellon (Chris), and Brian Perkins (Leslie); brother, Richard “Rick” Perkins (Janet); grandchildren, Michael Price, Olivia Price, Samuel Price, James Price, Caleb Perkins (Chloe), Luke Perkins, and Seth Perkins; great-grandchildren, Emmalyn Perkins, Jack Perkins, and great-grandson on the way, Roman; friend, Calvin Hastings; dog, Lacy; and numerous other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, on Fallston-Waco Rd., with Rev. Kevin Dover and Rev. Chris Mellon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM, prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private.
