Tommy Quay Peeler, age 84, of Vale, passed away Monday, August 10, 2026, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. He was born September 25, 1941, in Lincoln County, to the late Jackie Tom and Edith Fern Powell Peeler.
Tommy was a 1959 graduate of North Brook High School. After high school, he attended Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he received a bachelor’s degree. Tommy taught Spanish and Driver’s Ed for many years at Fred T. Foard High School. Tommy was a member of Second Baptist Church since 1962 and served in various roles within the church, including being a Sunday school teacher and youth leader, a choir director, Chair of the Deacons, and leading the Happy Hearts. He also loved being outdoors.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Joyce Peeler Peeler.
Survivors include his son, Kerry Peeler and wife, Rochele; daughter, Deana Peeler Leatherman and husband, Travis; two grandchildren, Taylor Leatherman White and husband, Hunter White, and Hunter Quay Leatherman and wife, Brandy; two great-grandchildren, Drake Andrew White and Fisher Quay Leatherman; sisters, Patsy Smith and husband Bud, and Gerri Towery; and many loving and caring family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM Friday, August 14, 2026, at Second Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. Matt Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM, prior to the service at the church.
A Committal Service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 201 N. Houser St. Cherryville NC 28021.
